Paths To Knowledge (dot Science)

What is actually real in Objective Reality? How do you know? Now, prove it's real!

Example of Scientists Being Threatened with the loss of their Career by other scientists, shameful

Posted by pwl on May 16, 2009

It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar. If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on.” – Michael T. Eckhart, president of the environmental group the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), wrote in an email on July 13, 2007 to Marlo Lewis, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI)

Yikes, you’re kidding right?

“In a July 16, Washington Times article, Eckhart confirmed that he did indeed write the email.”

Believe in warming, or I’ll destroy you
By Andrew Bolt
When you are on a mission to save the world, nothing – and no one – must be allowed to stand in your way. After all, they must be corrupt, deceitful or just plain evil to even doubt you. And so global warming prophet Michael Eckhart of the American Council on Renewable Energy sent Dr Marlo Lewis, a rationalist from the Competitive Enterprise Institute, this remarkable letter (follow the above link).”

Wow, the hubris of Michael Eckhart is absolutely shocking.

Michael Eckhard has a rebuttal to the publishing of the above email and a blog posting about it mentioned above. This is what I had to say about his rebuttal:

For a supposed scientist Michael T. Eckhart sure says the word that has no place in science a lot: “I believe …”

“I believe that global warming is occurring.”

That is NOT a scientific oriented statement but a statement of faithful belief. As such it can be disregarded.

Clearly his own statements don’t apply to himself when he says “This should offend all who believe in integrity and honesty in public affairs.” For how can a person dedicated to honesty and especially to integrity say what he wrote in that email “I will destroy you…”. Shameful conduct regardless of the context. What he should have written is to say how such conduct was unbecoming of a scientist or even of a politician with integrity (are there any of those?).

“I believe that a cleaner world will be a more productive world with more security, longer lives, broader equity, more peace, more prosperity, and greater freedom than the status quo can possibly offer.” So what? Your belief is not proof of AWG or GW.

“I believe that an open debate on these issues will reveal the truth of the matter.”

Well, maybe open but how about with integrity without the threats to end careers? Why the threats?

“This week, credible scientific organizations will predict that the North Pole will no longer have ice in the summer, beginning just ten years from now. Glaciers are melting. If the ice bank on Greenland melts, the seas could rise as much as 20 feet. This is serious business, affecting all.”

Well two years on and we see that the prediction isn’t going according to the soothsayers plans.. oh, pardon me, according to the predictions of the AWG Hypothesis. If it can even be called a hypothesis for it seems to lack the statements and axioms and facts that would prove it wrong – how convenient is that?

The lack of melting ice in the Arctic this year and the recover of the Arctic these last two years, plus the huge increase in ice in Antarctica seem to possibly provide a major inconvenient counter evidence to the, ah hem, AWG Hypothesis.

Oh well, disaster hypothesis come and go. I wonder what the public will think of scientists after the AWG Hypothesis freezes in Natures tracks of harsh objective reality? Nature’s a bit*^h, isn’t she?

Time might actually spare us from the destructive elements trying to save our planet. It’s doing fine without them as it has for the past 4.3 billion years and as it will till it’s death when Sol, our sun, goes into it’s red expansion phase.

Raise your own ethical standards Michael T. Eckhart. Once you’ve done that then maybe you might be able to question others about theirs.

All the best, pwl
