Update: see update at the end of the article.

From the police state insanity files.

Everything was going fine and fun as can been seen above until this maniac with a GUN showed up! HEY PUT THAT GUN AWAY and pick up a snowball Detective Baylor!!!

“In the mid-afternoon, at 14th and U Streets NW, where thanks to hundreds of tweets on twitter, the young and old gathered together for some winter playtime – a massive snowball fight. However, at least one person went too far and hurled a few snowballs at the maroon Hummer slowly driving by. Within seconds, it was as if the Nation’s Capital’s winter wonderland fell through a portal and landed directly in Tim Burton’s off-beat holiday hit “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. Yes, the man in the hummer was a senior DC detective, Detective Baylor, who quickly lost his cool. At first, the detective got out of his car and began waving his walkie talkie around. But within minutes, Detective Baylor grabbed for his gun and flashed it to the crowd. Since the detective did not identify himself as a police officer, someone called 911 and reported a man with a gun at the snowball fight. The detective calmed down once his fellow cops arrived. Can you say, “Merry Christmas?”

Whether you bring a knife to a gunfight or a gun to a snowball fight, the point is you brought the wrong weapon to get the results you are looking for.

it is frightening when someone walks in your direction carrying a pistol, especially when citizens and police are yelling at one another. He held the weapon at his side for 6 or 7 minutes before putting it away. – Police Officer Brandishes Gun at Snowball Fight in DC: Eye-Witness Report

You’re driving a Hummer and you’re worried about a wee tiny weeny little bitty snow ball hitting it? You’ve got to be kidding abusive power hungry Detective Baylor. Failing to identify yourself as a cop and flashing your gun threatening people with DEATH for throwing snowballs? Sure it’s effective (actually I’m surprised people didn’t bolt faster and further) but using a threat of DEATH against people is an abuse of state power especially over a wee tiny bit of a snow ball. Revoke this man’s right to carry a gun and abuse people – forever!

Update: Detective Baylor has been put on desk duty for drawing his gun. His gun and badge have been “widthdrawn” while he is investigated! Yes!

The BBC reports:

A senior police official in Washington DC has said an off-duty officer who drew a gun at a snowball fight behaved in a “totally inappropriate” way.

Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said video footage left “no doubt” the office drew his gun after his vehicle, a hummer, was pelted with snowballs.

The footage showed an angry crowd gathering, chanting: “You don’t bring a gun to a snowball fight”.

Ms Lanier said the officer had been placed on desk duty.

She said he had not denied the allegations.

Is a statement, Ms Lanier said she had reviewed all the video footage of the incident taken by the public and it was “very obvious” the officer had drawn his police-issue gun “in response to the snowballs hitting his vehicle”.

“I have no doubt about this, nor has the officer denied the accusations,” she said.

“Let me be very clear in stating that I believe the actions of the officer were totally inappropriate!

“In no way, should he have handled the situation in this manner.”

Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham told reporters the detective, who has not been officially named, had more than 25 years of experience.

“He has a very good reputation,” he told the Associated Press.
